Impact Explorer is a platform created for everyone and anyone who is passionate about sustainable travel in Cambodia.

Impact Explorer is essentially a home-stay booking platform where tourists get a chance to truly immerse themselves in the nature and the culture of Cambodia. By giving tourists options to try out home-stays with locals, the platform provides people in rural communities with a chance to get additional working opportunities and improve their livelihoods.

The project is a joint initiative between CamConscius Tourism and technology company Digital Rain. Impact Explorer serves as an online resource not only for people looking to travel independently, but also those who are keen to visit Cambodia’s ecotourism and community based tourism sites.

Tourists can tailor their trip based on what they want to experience. Among some of the activities and experiences Impact Explorer offers on its website are day trips, floating villages, historic sites and homestays.

To offer these experiences, Impact Explorer cooperates with local communities, for example around Yak Loum Lake. Tours were created by locals, allowing them to learn how to create an ideal tourism experience as well as how to communicate with tourists.

Impact Explorer also offers travel tips for tourists. Some of the tips include information on how to get around Cambodia, tips on social behaviour, where to find authentic local products or what foods to try whilst in Cambodia. The platform even offers information about Cambodian Wildlife and Biodiversity and information about volunteering in Cambodia.

Ultimately, the driving force behind the project is a belief that community-based tourism can be an effective tool to implement Sustainable Development Goals. That it can and will provide an alternative livelihood and employment opportunities for local Cambodian communities.
