It was the moment of truth for 13 teams at the National Pitch Event of Technovation Cambodia 2019, as they pitched their business ideas for social change in the Kingdom on May 5 at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia.
The USAID’s Development Innovations supported programme saw the participation of more than 200 girls for this year’s edition, and Geeks in Cambodia would like to congratulate the four winning teams that blew the crowd away their phenomenal presentations:
Senior Division Winner: Math-Assistant by E2Stem Girls Innovation, an application to promote thinking processes when tackling math questions.
Junior Division Winner: Amara by The Credos, a platform for Khmer performing artists to post their performance tickets online.
Senior Division Runner-up: Cheery by Agent Bring Help, a safe space for individuals facing mental health issues with counselling and sharing.
People’s Choice Award: Cambodia Trip by The Square, one-stop platform for tourists to find nearby attractions and book hotels.
Winners of Technovation Cambodia 2019
The lively and engaging pitches were products of an intense 12 weeks of brainstorming and computer programming, part of Technovation, an international social entrepreneurship and technology programme for young girls, the biggest of its kind in the world.
“All of you are part of an amazing global family, of innovative young women from across the world from over 115 countries that compete with the same format, they learn with the same skills, they pitch the same way… So this is a huge accomplishment, just getting here, just completing the programme,” encouraged Kate Heuisler, Chief of Party of Development Innovations.
Despite there being only 13 teams shortlisted for the National Pitch Event, all 39 local projects will be submitted to the global Technovation panel for deliberation, and will have the chance to enter future rounds before the final World Pitch in San Francisco in August 2019. Geeks in Cambodia is looking forward to more quality work by our talented teams!
