Calling all city geeks to mark your calendars as BarCamp Phnom Penh 2014 starts its run into the new month! The two-day international technology conference and exhibition will be happening in the second week of September, but it already promises a weekend packed full of events dedicated to this year’s theme, “Empowering Youth through Technology”.
The event will bring together computer enthusiasts, young IT professionals, social innovators, web and mobile developers, bloggers, business owners, entrepreneurs, social media professionals and university students to learn and share about new forms of social innovation. All the topics are based on the technologies and tools that bring strong benefits to individuals and organizations, and that is why the participants get to decide their own agenda and what they want to hear about. The agenda is created on the basis of participants’ requests, and the speakers, also participants and part of the community, are happy to oblige by presenting the desired information, allowing all participants to network with them and extend the Cambodian technological community.
For this year’s event, it will be structured around the following four zones:
Developer & Creativity Zone
This is where participants get to engage in the tech world’s latest web, mobile and social breakthroughs, and meet the developers who are turning them into tomorrow’s technology startups. There will be ideas and innovation galore in this sector, so make sure to come with a big appetite!
If participants want to learn and/or practice technical and troubleshooting skills under the guide of experienced people, then this is the zone to hit. With mentors who work at the pick of technology with computer systems, mobile devices, servers and networking in the Asian region, it will definitely provide a learning journey like no other.
Sometimes all we need is a second opinion on our ideas and projects, and this zone aims to provide that — and more. Meet experienced professionals involved in the IT industry, social development, employment or corporate business sectors, and get their feedback to plan new directions and decisions. It will also be a good chance to mingle with the big names to really capture the valuable insights that established them in this zone.
Social Media Zone
With the abundance of social media channels coming up, one has to learn how to focus resources on what really matters. This zone aims to highlight productivity and connections to others by using the latest online tools, accessing social media tools and content for none-profits and businesses. Online social media specialists and innovators who have a hand in turning the Internet into the reliable source of tomorrow’s news, a tool for commercial marketing strategy, or even feasible operation platforms for civil society organizations will be present for live discussions with the participants.
Promising tech people and topics in an open and democratic environment, BarCamp Phnom Penh 2014 is definitely an event not to be missed. You can find out more information about the agenda and speakers at their official website for the year, or their Facebook page!
