Yesterday, on November 2, Impact Hub Phnom Penh, in collaboration with The Asia Foundation launched TekHub, a space for a community of innovative leaders who harness the power of technology to impact society in a positive way.
Hosted on the second floor of The Asia Foundation’s office in Phnom Penh, the space will be available for entrepreneurs to prototype and test their ideas. In the coming months, it will also play host to numerous events, programmes and training courses for interested individuals.
Speaking about the collaboration with Impact Hub, Silas Everett, Country Director of The Asia Foundation said, “The Asia Foundation is really proud to be collaborating with Impact Hub to make this TekHub possible.”
Three features of TekHub highlighted at the event include the Tuesday Cookie Break, Hot Seat Thursdays and the all important global passport.
During Tuesday Cookie Breaks, TekHub will become a space for tech entrepreneurs to network, get to know each other and potentially, form collaborations. As for Hot Seat Thursdays, the startups who are working in the TekHub space can use this time to share their ideas with fellow entrepreneurs and gain feedback.
Entrepreneurs who get connected with TekHub will also benefit from Impact Hub’s Global Passport. As the Impact Hub network now stretches across 73 cities all around the globe, being part of the TekHub network means you’ll have a chance to connect to entrepreneurs from all around the world to share your resources.
Another regular event that will take place at TekHub will be the Business Clinics. At these clinics, entrepreneurs will be able to book 30min timeslots to consult any of the 8 experts currently linked to the programme.
These 8 experts include Kimsophat Kong, who can offer tax and legal advice, David Benaim who can advise on accounting solutions and the CEO of Impact Hub, Alberto Cremonesi, who will be able to give advice on networking and partnerships.
Aside from these events, the space will also play host to CodingGate, TekHub’s resident tech venture. Led by Sopheakmonkol Sok (Monkol), CodingGate is a Cambodian startup with expertise in mobile and web app development who now have over 37 members as part of their team. For Monkol, the dream would be for CodingGate to develop into Cambodia’s biggest tech outsourcing company within the next 5 years and he believes that TekHub will be a platform for him to do just that!
CodingGate also took the opportunity to launch a few applications they have been developing including one called “My Family”. This is an app that can capture family moments and help with family financial management. Another app that was launched is named “Sokhakrom”, which is an app that is able to recommend medical services based on your location.
For TekHub, yet another exciting development will happen in January where the space will also play host to the five teams selected from the EPIC Programme for the acceleration phase of the incubator project.
All in all, TekHub is yet another wonderful space in Phnom Penh that is sure to inspire young entrepreneurs and give future startups a strong foundation to succeed! If you’re interested in TekHub events, check out their Facebook Page for the latest updates.
