On the 20th and 21st of this month, Tao Ventures and The Asia Foundation are teaming up to host Social Media Hack Exchange – a two-day social media for social good hack exchange.
If you’re a social media manager in Cambodia, this event is definitely one for you. Your participation fees will be waved and it will really benefit your organisation, especially considering that the popularity of social media in Cambodia is on the rise.
Social Media in Cambodia is significantly changing how people learn, engage and organise. However, trends are showing that there are low rates of converting awareness into action through social media. As such, this event hopes to equip you with the necessary tools to deploy the latest tactics to increase your social media engagement.
One of the highlights of the event will be the hack exchange. That’s where you will get the chance to work in small groups to build social media engagement strategies around issues relevant to Cambodia like environment protection, health and education.
After the work is done, key social media influencers have been invited to provide their perspective on the stickiness and “virality” of the various social media tactics you’ve proposed. Don’t worry if you’re not up to date with the latest tactics though, because the hack exchange will only take place on day 2 of the event!
On day 1, the organisers have invited social media managers and influencers to expose you to the latest social media tools and techniques so you’ll be well prepared when the time for the hack exchange comes around.
Armed with their vast industry experience, the industry professionals will discuss the latest tools and emerging techniques to structure, execute and measure social media engagement. They will also introduce you to various softer approaches and provide insight into the step-by-step approaches taken when applying certain tactics. Essentially, they will be your guides.
These guides include Megan Anhalt, a Social Media for Social Impact Specialist who has over 10 years of experience working in digital media. Recently, she has served as Strategy Director at Purpose, a global leader in building participatory campaigns around social issues.
Another guide is Justin Stokes, Managing Director of Tao Ventures Cambodia who is a strategy advisor and coach to corporate executives, non-profit leaders and social entrepreneurs. He specialises in harnessing the potential of technology to create prosperity and social value.
Speaking about the event, Justin, together with Silas Everett, the Director of the Asia Foundation said, “Much has changed in the past 20 years to empower us as members of our communities… Today, we are able to connect, learn, mobilise to take action at a speed and scale never before possible. These new dynamics are ushering in a new age that harnesses the power of social media and connectivity tools to create real opportunities for individuals to participate in creating social good.”
So if you’re interested in using social media for social good, or are a social media manager, then this event is one for you! Simply drop a short email to firstname.lastname@example.org and tell them about your organisation and role as a social media manager and you’ll be registered for this event!
