Phnom Penh, 2 December 2019: Seedstars Summit Asia finished their 2019 edition with a bang, bringing together the coolest startups from all across Asia to pitch and compete for an opportunity to present their business ideas on a global stage.

For the first time ever, the three day summit took place in Phnom Penh, and Geeks in Cambodia was there to find out more.

The summit, part of the Seedstars World Competition, was the final part of a long journey across more than 17 different countries, scouting for the best startups in Asia. In the end, these Asian startups will have the chance to join the finals, which is the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland, in 2020.

During the event, startups could join a Growth Bootcamp, where they received intensive training from the Seedstars investment team and regional mentors. Entrepreneurs also pitched their ideas to potential investors at an Investor Forum

Rosie Keller, the Regional Manager for Seedstars Asia said, “The main value that everybody gets is the mentoring, the connections, investor meetings, just meeting all these inspirational people from around the world.”

At the main stage, attendees had a chance to listen to intense 1 minute startup pitches from 20 different startups. Cambodia was represented by SALA Tech, a venture selected as one of the 14 Asian startups that will have the opportunity to pitch at the final Seedstars Summit in Switzerland.

Geeks in Cambodia had the opportunity to participate in one of the four workshops held at the event, “How to leverage the power of technology to address Asia’s environmental challenges.” The workshop, which was participant-led, discussed possible solutions in four main categories, waste management, water management, sustainable energy and air pollution. The discussion focused especially on how to use technology to solve the issues.
