Monthly DevCamp May 2014: PhoneGap for Beginners

With the rapid expansion of mobile demands in the market, it does seem like there is a mobile app for everything we can do these days. The more popular mobile operating systems, namely, iOS, Android, Windows Phone and Blackberry, dominate the market and usually result in developers making a platform decision from the start. Should they support Apple users first, or Samsung users? Otherwise, if they decide to release two versions, will there be an equal division of resources on both platforms?

In this month’s Developer Camp by InSTEDD iLab Southeast Asia representatives, Lim Mouyleng and San Sonan, they will be exploring PhoneGap, an open source framework for building cross-platform mobile applications with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Participants will be able to learn and discuss PhoneGap as an option when building their own mobile applications across startup ventures as it does come with attractive perks such as integrated cross channel marketing, mobile application management, and enterprise support and training. The framework has currently been downloaded over 1 million times and used by over 400,000 developers, and has over thousands of apps under their name.

Not only are the presenting pair year-5 students at ITC, they have also been trainees at InSTEDD iLab Southeast Asia for the last 4 months. As part of their job scope, they are currently developing the Resource Map application for both the iOS and Android platforms. You find out more information about their teams’ work here!

PhoneGap for Beginners is free (just bring your questions and passion!) and will take place from 2pm onwards, 31 May 2014, at the InSTEDD iLab Southeast Asia premises. You can contact the organisers, either Borey at 070 224 991 or Mesa at 012 583 587, for any further enquiries!
