Phnom Penh, 27 August 2019 – SmartEdu University Student Development Program concluded with three best teams of this year’s cohort presenting their ideas and innovative solutions on how to solve complex business challenges at yesterday’s awards ceremony.
Team tackling a problem presented by Thalias, how would they solve an issue of better data collection in order to meet customers’ needs, became the CEO Challenge Champion and won 1,800 USD, after presenting their plan to a panel of judges formed by CEOs of BIMA Cambodia, Thalias, Grab Cambodia and Smart Axiata.
Two other teams presenting at the CEO Challenge were focusing on problems introduced by BIMA and Grab. BIMA challenged the students on how to improve the use and trust in mHealth App, platform to consult doctors via cellphones about medical conditions instead of going directly to a pharmacy, while “team Grab” was focusing on promoting Grab’s delivery service GrabFood in Cambodia.
The 48 participants of the program, selected from 16 universities, were divided into 8 teams that underwent a Bootcamp in Siem Reap. They worked on their communication skills, creativity and critical thinking, and went through digital business-related challenges, workshops and simulations.
“At Smart, we believe students are the ones who will lead the tech industry in Cambodia. All participants showed incredible effort and energy during the Bootcamp, and it was not a walk in the park. Students went through 5 intense workshops and 4 business simulation and they were pushed to the limit,” commended the students’ performance Thomas Hundt, CEO of Smart Axiata.
Two more teams won a prize, the Best Overall Team First Runner-Up received 1,000 USD and Best Overall Team Champion got 1,400 USD for their performance during the Bootcamp. Top eight Individual Performers will also join a two-month training in Malaysia.
This year had one more special category, the Overall Best Performer, won by Keo Pitou from Hult International Business School in London.
“The Bootcamp was an incredible experience. It was tough and we worked constantly, but I never learned so much within such a short time. It is an experience that I will always remember, learning about emotional intelligence and leadership skills while meeting incredible and inspiring people.” Keo Pitou commented on the Bootcamp.
