Cambodia’s leading mobile telecommunications company, Smart Axiata, released its sustainability report for 2015 to 2016, titled ‘Propelling Cambodia towards the Digital Future’. Highlighting the company’s approach to sustainability and its contributions to the nation from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2016, this report serves as a restatement of Smart’s overall vision, achievements and commitment to sustainability, especially in terms of being transparent to their stakeholders and the people of the Kingdom.
This Sustainability Report is also the second standalone one thus far, using the reporting framework that adheres to the Axiata Group’s overall work and focuses on their Economy, Environment and Society (EES) under the 4 main Sustainability pillars: Beyond Short-term Profits, Nurturing People, Process Excellence and Planet & Society.
Delving deeper into the four pillars,
“Beyond Short-term Profits” describes Smart’s fundamental business approach in seeking to create long-term value through inclusive investments and prioritising the understanding of consumer relations over pure commercial motivation
“Nurturing People” refers to how Smart recognizes people as the most valuable assets for its success and provides a conducive workplace for creativity and innovation to fester. Along with that, it follows on Axiata’s core values of Uncompromising Integrity and Exceptional Performance when it comes to developing their world class talent
“Process Excellence” details initiatives made to improve the process design of customer care and internal operations, so as to increase efficiency and effectiveness
“Planet & Society” includes Smart’s efforts in giving back to the community and environment, such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or Green initiatives
In the report, some of the more prominent achievements achieved by Smart during this two-year time period were also mentioned and they include:
Smart Axiata’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Thomas Hundt, added that these achievements are “clear evidence that Smart has always taken (their) national responsibilities very seriously – something (their) customers, stake- and shareholders can be proud of.”.
Mr Hundt went on to mention about future plans for Smart Axiata, such as the continued provision of top-notch mobile technology combined with exciting entertainment value, all while actively participating in the Kingdom’s socio-economic growth.
This comes in line with the recent launch of their two new efforts– the 4.5G, which was implemented to heighten Smart’s data leadership position in Cambodia, expand its digital portfolio, as well as introduce a new Tech Innovation CSR pillar, and the 5 million USD Smart Axiata Digital Innovation Fund.
“Our investment in, and commitment to Cambodia has continued in 2017 and will remain continuously strong in the future,” Mr Hundt concluded.
