Cambodia will honour the Nation’s most innovative Information Communications and Technology (ICT) products and services on June 15, when the final candidates in the annual ICT Awards will showcase their projects in front of a panel of judges as they vie for the USD10,000 top prize.
Organised by The National Institute of Posts and Telecoms and ICT (NIPTICT), the event aims to promote Cambodian ICT talent and ideas. Applicants from private companies, startups, non-profit organisations (NGOs) and public service institutions can submit their projects before May 15 to be included in the event, past winners of which include DirexPlay and the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation.
Dr. Sopheao Seng, President of NIPTICT said, “Innovation can come from very different places. This is why we have created different categories allowing young start-ups, private companies but also public initiatives and NGOs to showcase their creativity.”
There will be 6 six categories that candidates can apply for:
1. Start-up Company
2. Digital Content
3. Private Sector
4. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
5. Public Sector
6. Research & Development
Of the shortlisted applicants, 12 will be selected for the final round. The winner of each category will walk away with USD2,000 and the Top 3 winners overall will receive USD10,000, 3,000 and 2,000 respectively. Note: The winner will only get the highest reward and prizes will not be accumulated.
Applicants go through a stringent selection before being chosen to present their project in front of a jury composed of business leaders, government officials, civil society and ICT industry representatives in the semi-finals. Judging criteria includes creativity, benefits to society, technology involved, quality and the reliability of the product.
With the event being supported by notable companies in Cambodia’s ICT landscape such as Smart Axiata, winners of this prestigious prize can not only look forward to regional recognition but also international recognition during the ASEAN ICT Awards. Gathered by the greatest innovative projects in the region, past winners have included BookmeBus, Bong Pheak and Sokhakrom, who all won Gold Medals in Start-up, CSR, and Private Sector categories respectively.
To recognise, encourage and promote outstanding products and projects of this Kingdom, NIPTICT hopes that all potential and interested applicants will register their chance at this prestigious award.
