On the 19th September, be sure to be at the National Institute of Posts, Telecoms, and ICT (NIPTICT) building from 1 – 5pm, for Phnom Penh will be celebrating Software Freedom Day! SFD is a global annual event coordinated by non-profit organisation Software Freedom International (SFI), which aims to celebrate the use of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS).
Though local SFD events are organised by volunteer teams globally to mark an impression on their own community, SFI also helps by lending their support, giveaways, and a collaboration point.
The main purpose of celebrating Software Freedom Day is to bring to light the advantages of implementing high quality FOSS education in every aspect of life – in education, in government, at home, and in business.
At NIPTICT, a variety of speakers will be there to address you on different topics related to open source software. This includes Dr. Sopheap Seng, President of NIPTICT, who will address attendees with an opening speech, speeches from community leaders such as Open Institute, Small World, and Hackerspace, Lightning Talks with Arky from Mozilla, and guest speaker Frederic Heise from FPV Cambodia, who will be talking about Open Source Software for drones. There will also be other topics and speakers, such as Open Source Mapping and Virtualisation.
