Registration is now open for the Business Model Competition (BMC) Cambodia Startup Accelerator and Competition. BMC is looking for university students or university graduates, who have graduated within the last 5 years, with creative ideas for a new business or social venture.
By taking part in the competition, the BMC Accelerator programme is designed to launch new businesses and social ventures through an intensive three month programme that will include mentoring sessions and access to some funding.
Organised by the Cambodia International Education Support Foundation (CIESF) in cooperation with the National University of Management, this will be a great opportunity for anyone with a creative business idea or social venture to get the tools needed to start up your startup!
The competition will have two categories, the “Junior” (undergraduates) and the “Senior” (recent graduates), with teams of not more than three members. To register, each team will have to submit a 3 minute YouTube video by November 6 and selected teams will have weekly training seminars and team consultations with industry experts.
At the end of the three month training programme, teams will have to deliver a 10 minute business model presentation to an expert judging panel, that will also include potential investors, who will decide on winning teams from both categories.
The winning team from the senior category will receive $4,000 and the winning team from the junior category will receive $2,000. Additionally, the event’s sponsors will also present other prizes and awards.
On top of the cash prize, the two winning teams will also compete in the regional finals in Yangon, Myanmar as part of the Mekong Challenge. Eventually, the winners of the Mekong Challenge will advance to the international finals in the United States.
In previous years, this competition has helped birth startups like Pengpos, an online food and cuisine delivery in Phnom Penh, who were awarded the Gold Medal in the 2016 Startup Accelerator programme and Edemy (Education Academy), who won a Silver Medal & the Smart Innovation Award. In fact, Edemy advanced all the way to the semi finals of the international edition of the competition which was hosted at the Microsoft Campus in the USA.
So what are you waiting for? We know there are great ideas buzzing out there just waiting to burst into life and make an impact on the Cambodian market.
Sign up for the BMC Cambodia Startup Accelerator & Competition here! Registration closes on November 6 so do hurry!
