The Asean India Grand Challenge 2018 is open for registrations till 31 December 2017; so if you are an innovative startup with a great idea in mind, this may be the perfect competition for you to pilot your idea and make it a reality!
Organised by the Government of India, the Asean India Grand Challenge is one of the most prestigious competitions in the Asian Pacific region, offering participating businesses the chance to compete over a viable market access programme held in India where they will get to rub shoulders and work together with large corporates, start governments and central ministries.
The open innovation challenge aims to identify global entrepreneurs who have commercially viable solutions or ideas and want to leverage on these innovation business solutions. Those interested will then get to pilot their ideas in India under the following 6 themes, split into 2 sectors namely ‘Main Theme Areas’ and ‘Social Impact Themes’:
Two teams will then be selected under each theme and will proceed to be incubated under various State Governments of India for a 3 to 4 week all expenses paid incubation programme, along with a VISA entry permit for their stay there.
Besides that, participants can fall into either of the two categories per theme, the ‘Idea Category’ or the ‘Enterprise Category’. With two highly diverse categories, this means that way more businesses are able to qualify to participate in this challenge and applicants will definitely benefit from the specificity of each of the categories presented; allowing incubation to be more geared towards their needs later on.
To elaborate further, the ‘Idea Category’ is for those businesses who are still in the process of validating their idea, are trying to build a minimum viable product or have actually conducted trials with a small group of potential customers, but have yet to generate a consistent business revenue.
On the other hand, the ‘Enterprise Category’ is specially for those businesses who are already generating revenues or are interested in scaling their businesses, in terms of expansion to other regions to increase size and impact.
As part of the eligibility criteria as well, those who participate must hail from countries in the ASEAN region. This includes businesses exclusively from Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, and right here in Cambodia!
Moving on to the competition process, the Asean India Grand Challenge 2018 just contains 2 major steps before the final 12 businesses are selected for incubation – a pre-screening video elevator pitch for the shortlisted 60 entries and a final presentation in Marina Bay Sands, Singapore during the ASEAN India Pravasi Bharatiya Divas event for the further shortlisted 36 entries. For those who are really interested in participating, here is a more detailed breakdown of the competition’s timeline as well:
