The image of geeks gathering around a beach in Philippines may sound a little far-fetched, but Geeks On A Beach 2 is back to prove that their initial success is here to stay on the sandy shores. Geeks On A Beach 2 (GOAB 2) will be held at Cebu, Philippines this year on 21 and 22 August 2014, so get ready for a startup, tech, design and all geeky beach party like no other!
Organised by TechTalks.Ph and DOST-ICTO, the exciting continuation branches from the inaugural event’s resounding success, earning a whopping rating score of 9.5/10 from the past attendees. At the last count, over 300 startup founders, tech entrepreneurs, investors, and industry experts from 17 countries were in attendance. Not only did it bring together key people from around the world (we are talking about a crowd of investors, founders, and startups), it also proved to be a perfect mix of opportunity and play time. Geeks On A Beach 2 will be bigger and better, with the event setting camp on a five star resort, Mövenpick Hotel, and happening in the oldest city in the Philippines, Cebu City.
“We will continue to live up to GOAB’s motto trademark motto of ‘work hard, play harder’ with the laidback discussions and fun parties. But we are also making sure that the content won’t be overshadowed by the party atmosphere,” said TechTalks.ph founder Tina Amper, “We will highlight the successes and challenges facing the Philippine startup ecosystem and what we need to do more to further promote more Filipino startup successes.”
Some of the highlights from the agenda include the “Challenges and Opportunities of Startups”, “Women in Tech”, and “Beyond ASEAN 2015: Opportunities and Challenges for Startup Communities”. If you thought that the promising sessions were all, the collection of speakers will establish that this party invitation is not to be missed: expect to hear from 500 Startups’ Khailee Ng, World Startup Report/World Startup Wiki’s Bowei Gai, IdeaSpace’s Earl Valencia, STAC (Silicon Valley)’s Christina Laskowski, and many more! The full list of speakers is available on the official web page here!
Other than the main beach meetup, be prepared for another round of the GOAB Speed Dating Event, where startups rumble and roll with investors in a fashion similar to Infocomm Investments (Singapore). With 10 team pitching to 10 geeks/investors/mentors in under 5 minutes each, it will definitely be an intense round of impressions. Don’t forget to check out the lucky list of startups already involved with GOAB’s Geeks On A Plane program, an invite-only tour for startups, investors, and executives to learn about high-growth technology markets worldwide. The group will travel by planes, trains, and automobiles to the most exciting international startup scenes with the sole mission of uniting geeks and exploring cross-border opportunities. The result? “A lifelong bond with fellow travellers, a wealth of new friends and business contacts in exploding technology markets, and a stronger appreciation for the cultural and economic ties that bind us globally.”
With only the event kicking off in the near week, be sure to check out all the hype coming towards Cebu on their website, or their Facebook page! Tickets for GOAB 2 are going from $225 (without the admin fee) for the regular conference pass, and it will include over $400 worth of goodies!
