If you find yourself constantly weighing yourself to keep the ideal weight, how about weighing your food instead? In fact, take a step further and have the information about the nutritional value of the food you’re weighing too.
SITU is a Bluetooth-enabled food scale paired to your iPad to list out exact food information through their extensive database, provide options to remember your favourite choices, and ensure that you know what you are eating. It has worked brilliantly for Michael Grothaus, the man behind the invention, sharing that he shed up to 28kg in months thanks to the scale.
The instructions for both the scale and app are simple. All you have to do is place the food you wish to weigh on the scale, input what food (cuisine type/restaurant/components) it is, and watch the numbers separate and add up.
The app will automatically pull nutritional information on your behalf, and you can teach the app to recognise your routine and track your intake everyday. Other features of the app include a history section that can be used to keep track of eating habits over time, and backup options. The scale itself can support up to 5kg worth of food, and the batteries are promised an average battery life of six months.
The developers are still looking to connect the scale to other devices (iPhones and Android smartphones) as now the scale only supports iPads running iOS 7.
The product is currently calling for Kickstarter backers to push the idea of a smart scale further. Backers can start pledging from US$83, and shipping is expected to start in November 2014 if the project is successful.
