Apple recently revealed its ambition to develop a music platform project, allowing users to discover new talents and streaming music online. Further than listening, users would also be able to be easily redirected to iTunes to buy some music.
In this regards, Apple discussed partnerships and royalties terms with Universal music initially, and more recently with Sony and Warner as well.
Already leader in the digital download business, with this project, Apple aims at competing with existing music platforms such as Spotify or Pandora. By launching its own streaming music service, Apple means to maintain this leading position, and to provide musical features in a different way. Indeed, by negotiating licensing deals directly with records label, iRadio’s ambition is to bring its services to more users, offer less restrictions, and still push people into purchasing their own music in the end.
Apple says to be willing to release this new service next summer.
