After a gruelling 5 months, the names of the 24 applicants that made it through the judging period have surfaced. The PoC Competition is held in anticipation of the Vietnam Climate Innovation Centre (VCIC), and is organised by infoDev and the World Bank Group, in partnership with the Asian Development Bank.
Application started in May 2014, and was open to all entrepreneurs with innovative ideas for climate change mitigation and/or adaption. Entry period closed on 4th of August 2014, and all applications were subject to a judging panel.
The panel comprised of individuals with knowledge and skills in:
- Climate change
- Venture capital investment
- Development and commercialization
- Start-ups and advisory
The judging criteria of how applications were scrutinized consisted of:
- Market viability (including scalability and business sutainability)
- Potential environmental, social and economic impacts
Here are the 24 successful applicants:
Moving forward, the above applicants will be invited to participate in a ‘bootcamp’. There, they will get to fully develop their ideas with professional project mentorship and coaching on entrepreneurship, cleantech, managing financials, developing their business models, pitch and more.
After this ‘bootcamp’, some may get grant funding of up to VND 1,000,000,000 per entrepreneur depending on the feasibility of their business case. They will then be able to develop, launch and / or scale up a product or service, and get prized access to the full Vietnam CIC program and subsequent showcase of their eco-business models.
